National Emergency Plan for Nuclear Accidents

The National Emergency Plan for Nuclear Accidents (NEPNA) co-ordinates the emergency response to a situation where there is radioactive contamination in Ireland, whether the incident happens in Ireland, the UK or another country. While the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government has overall lead responsibility for the Plan, important support roles are also provided by other Departments and Agencies such as the following:

  • Environmental Protection Agency 
  • Department of the Taoiseach
  • Department of Defence 
  • Department of Health
  • Health Service Executive
  • Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine
  • Food Safety Authority of Ireland
  • An Garda Siochana
  • Irish Coast Guard
