The 2015 Atlantic Margin Licensing Round is now closed.

On the 11th February 2016, Minister McHugh announced the offer of fourteen new Licensing Options in the Irish offshore, following the conclusion of the first phase of awards in the 2015 Atlantic Margin Licensing Round. This phase of awards focuses on an area in the southern Porcupine Basin, where a number of applications included commitments to acquire new seismic surveys later this year. Read the full press release. 

The second phase of awards under the Licensing Round was announced by Minister Kyne on the 3rd June 2016. Details of the fourteen new Licensing Options awarded as part of the second phase can be found here. These awards mark the conclusion of the 2015 Atlantic Margin Licensing Round.

2015 Atlantic Margin Licensing Round

On the 18 June 2014 the Minister for Natural Resources Fergus O’Dowd announced the details of the 2015 Atlantic Margin Oil and Gas Exploration Licensing Round. The formal launch of the round followed the conclusion of the Government’s review of Ireland’s fiscal terms for oil and gas undertaken by UK oil and gas experts Wood Mackenzie. Included in the Round are all of Ireland's major Atlantic basins:

  • Porcupine
  • Goban Spur
  • Slyne
  • Erris
  • Donegal
  • Rockall

The form of concession on offer will be a two year Licensing Option, to be granted under the Petroleum and Other Minerals Development Act, 1960.
Applications for these Licensing Options must be received no later than 12 noon on Wednesday, 16th September 2015. Applications should not be submitted to the Department before to Monday, 31st August 2015. A Licensing Option is the only form of petroleum authorisation for which applications will be accepted under the 2015 Licensing Round.
